Once you have installed attractive granite counter tops in the bathroom and kitchen surfaces of your home, you can easily recline in and armchair and glow with satisfaction. The shiny finished and tough granite counter tops are a sensible as well as an imaginative decision. But without the due regular care for removing stains from the surfaces before they become permanent, that glow may well become gloom. Most granite surfaces are sealed to put off the harmful outcome of the majority of household stains, but there are some tips to ensure that the countertops stay looking as good as new till the time you want to change them.

Every kind of stain on granite counter tops has to be dealt with in a different way, since stains are caused by different things. To counter most kinds of stains, keep the following things handy " flour, mild dishwashing soap, hydrogen peroxide (mild, regular and 12%), ammonia, lacquer thinner (or, even acetone would do), some plastic wrap, a wooden utensil, some molding plaster, bleach, and of course, that universal cleaning agent, water. With this arsenal and some willpower, your granite counter tops are insured from stains.

For the common stains on the granite counter top, mix a thick paste with one cup of flour with and about 2 tablespoons of mild dishwashing soap, and water. Apply this paste on the stain, and leave it overnight, covered with a plastic wrap. You can remove the paste from the stain with the help of a wooden tool in the morning. Rinse it with water to make sure that your favorite surface looks like the original. For stubborn oily stains, do the same steps as above, except that you can use the same amount of mild hydrogen peroxide instead of the dishwashing soap, to get rid of the stain from the granite counter tops.

In case of stains caused by organic substances like coffee and tea on your granite counter tops, use a combination of 12 percent hydrogen peroxide and 2 or 3 drops of ammonia. Ink stains require a different approach, even depending on whether they are made on granite of a darker or lighter hue. Lacquer thinner or acetone is effective for ink stains on dark-colored granite counter tops, while for light granite, it is better to use regular hydrogen peroxide. Simply apply them to stains to see the ink disappear.

Wine can be harsh on granite, so apply a paste of bleach and molding plaster mixture to the stain, and remove and rinse after 30 minutes for sparkling granite.
