If you feel similar to numerous other folks who consider their bathroom as very little more than a dazzling blaze of fixtures and tile, try reconsidering how your bathroom could be. It is not that difficult, because all you need is your imagination to figure out exactly the look and feel that you would prefer. Here are several design tips on bathroom theme accessories that will give your bathroom that all important warm feeling in no time at all.

You need to decide on a theme for your bathroom as you would any other room in the house. Theming not only bestows mood to the room but also your individual personality. Of course, there are literally hundreds of themes to select from including sea life, country style, tropical beaches and Mediterranean villas. Even So, as a good rule of thumb, you should select a theme that suits you and not one that someone recommends. Ideally, go for a style that closely matches other deisgns around you home. By doing so, it will not be out of tune with the general theme of your home

Bathrooms in many older homes were installed as an afterthought and are literally remodelled closets in some cases. If you are unfortunate enough to have a modest bathroom, you can still decorate to give the illusion of space by utilizing the right colors. Just bear in mind that with a small bathroom, less is often more. Both paint and paper work well although, in a small space, use neutral colors either on one wall or as an accent on a chair rail. If you decide on traditional white paint or paper, it is a simple matter of accenting with color using any of the myriad of decor accessories. Items like baskets, framed prints, sea shells, throw rugs and even facades will all add colorful emphases without going overboard.

Warm rust tone of paint or wallpaper work really well with plants in the bathroom. However, select plants that like steamy warm conditions, and that can tolerate the different chemical substances. Some plants just cannot take the mousse, hairspray, and perfumes that are used regularly in a bathroom. It will gum up the plants leaves and they will finish up in your compost bin. If your bathroom is big enough, you can hang plants from the ceiling, or place them on the rear of the toilet. Large garden style bathtubs have enough space on the rim of the tub to place small plants, and along with bath soaps and baskets, they look beautiful.

Rugs and towels play a vital role when accessorizing your freshly decorated bathroom. For a feeling of sheer elegance, you will not go far wrong with hand woven or deep sumptuous throw rugs. However, when purchasing the rugs, take into account the type of floor covering you are laying them on since they can present a slipping danger when placed on bathroom laminate flooring. To prevent this, look for rugs that have either a non slip or rubber backing. Try coordinating your new rugs and toilet mat in either matching or alternate colors. When combined with a neutral backdrop, assorted textures work well to make an inviting, comfy warm feeling to your bathroom.

You can pep up your bathroom with decorative towel racks and colorful towels as well. Towel racks are available in all manner of finishes including wood, bronze, silver and gold. If you want to match existing baskets and picture frames, you can paint or stain wooden racks in whatever color or shade you desire.

Bathroom lighting is just as important as the decoration and accessories. As a matter of fact, light can make or break the mood of any room. Because water and electricity do not mix very well, your initial consideration must be safety. If you have children in the house, I would suggest that all lighting should be fixed and out of reach of little wet hands. That aside however, you can leave night lights on when the bathroom is not in use and if counter top space permits, a small lamp. You can then fit lamp shades that match your general theme.

Finally, take time and read some decorating books on bathrooms. Look at their designs and see the numerous unusual ways to theme your bathroom. Use their designs for inspiration so your own creative juices will get flowing. It is okay to be uniquely you when decorating your bathroom, so go for it! You will never know what different themes are out there until you check them out when trying to dress your bathroom at home.
