The look of marble or sparkling ceramic is easy to accomplish. You can decorate a room in simulated marble or simulated tile using etching acids that will react on the lime in the surface of the concrete. Using dyes or paints mixed with surfactants will bring about any color or design that the homeowner desires. You can ask for metallic salts to be used in the top layer that will react within that top concrete layer leaving a chemical staining effect.

You should know that concrete staining, as it has become known, is not foreseeable. Since there is variation in the lime content in each batch of concrete and then other factors such as day-to-day temperatures, humidity, and so on, the concrete will set differently each time. Nonetheless, when you take these consideration into account concrete flooring is still an excellent alternative for a number of applications. But, beware that staining effects are permanent. Should you not be pleased and want these removed, a considerable portion of the concrete will need to be poured again and fresh concrete inexpensive.

Comparing the cost of hardwood or laminate floor floors, which are notably durable and beautiful, they can run $6-$10 per square foot, concrete will cost less than half that cost. One other point in favor of concrete, is that once the job is done it's seamless. All the artistic effects or customizations are durable clean easily. With the exception of automotive oil another rare acids, it's difficult to stain and even these can be prevented with the proper surface treatment.

Basement concrete floors may be a healthier alternative to carpets, and throw rungs. All dust cleans easily and doesn't stay trapped in the surface. Dust mites and other allergens such as pollen, pet dander, smoke residue can be easily eliminated. You can even safely wipe concrete with a mild disinfectant like diluted bleach or an anti-fungal liquid to retard chances even further. Bear in mind, however, that even if you treat concrete surfaces they may crack.

This is because you have previously treated them with color and etching acids. The cracks might not show well but they will still provide a home for moisture and mildew. Therefore, it's imperative to keep the concrete surface dry. Even a short-term exposure to snow or other precipitation should be mopped up quickly.
