Due to this investment you want to make sure they are taken care of on a regular basis.
Yearly you should re-apply sealant to keep a glossy shine on your granite tiles and to protect them from any damage from traffic or heavy objects. There are also other periodic things you must do to keep your granite floor tiles looking great.
Examine the edges and the grout, sometimes small chips lead to big cracks or even breaks. If you find anything like this replace it ASAP. Examine the seams for any dried out sections in the grout that are falling apart. This happens a lot when the granite was put down in an uneven spot.
Make sure you wipe up any spills as soon as you see them. If you drop something on them pick it up immediately. Also any dirt or mud should be mopped up ASAP then swept to keep any small particles of rock from getting into the granite or scratch the surface.
Besides periodic inspections and re-sealing of the granite floor tiles, daily cleaning should be done in order to ensure that the tiles look their best for a long time. Daily dry-mopping is good practice. Run a dry-mop, or duster, over the granite tiles at least once a day. This will keep and dust, or small particles of rock from accumulating on the tile. Clean with approved granite cleaners. Do not use abrasive cleaners, bleach, or other detergents. This has the potential to ruin the coloration of the granite. Recommended granite cleaners, either from the granite manufacturer or a third party, should be used when cleaning the granite. You can use warm water and soap for regular everyday cleaning of our tile. However, there will be a filmy residue left behind. So, you will need to rinse a few times to diminish the residue.
If you have a large discoloration, or stain, in our granite floor tiles, then consult a professional cleaner who will have the equipment to do the job right without damaging the floors. You might damage the floor more with trial and error if you have never used any floor polishers before.
